Nariño
Sandoná is a Colombian municipality located in the department of Nariño, in the southwest of the country. It is known for its rich tradition in the production of toquilla straw hats, as well as for its cultural beauty. In addition to crafts, agriculture and livestock are important in the local economy.
Weaving toquilla straw hats is one of the most predominant crafts in Sandoná, Nariño. This traditional art has been practiced for generations in this region of Colombia.
In addition to hats (with the Denomination of Origin seal), in some communities other products are made such as bags, baskets and other fashion and home accessories. It is a very versatile fiber.
